Hey guy's
I just got back from Cabins, WV, yesterday and let me tell ya it was awesome. We stayed in a very nice cabin at the Berger's place. Our first day of fishing was on Wednesday. We went to Seneca Creek but it was to low. We then went to Dry Fork and the water level was OK. Me and Derick fished for about an hour. I saw a trout rise not to far from where we parked so I casted to the area with a parachute ant with a orange indicator. As soon as it hit the water a big rainbow hit and the fight was on. I kind of horsed the rainbow in because I was so excited. Once I got him in I went to pick him up but he was to big to get my hands around and I didn't have a net. I finally fumbled around with him enough to get a sloppy picture that Derick took from the road with his camera.
The next day we went to Smoke hole canyon to fish the South Branch of the Potomac. I caught a 13 inch Brown on a 14 Adams just up stream from the catch and release area. I caught several fall fish as well.
We then went to what Derick and Rick calls the "special place" to pursue native Brook Trout. I caught a lot of fall fish but no Brookie.
On Friday we went back to the South Branch and we all had an excellent day of fishing. I caught a nice rainbow in a small run on a dropper rig. Derick caught two Rainbow's and a 20 plus Brown with a patriot fly. He was so excited he wanted to go back to the special place to attempt to complete his grand slam with a Brookie.
When we got back to the special place I caught several big fall fish. One of which got me on the real. While I was fighting the fall fish I heard Derick down stream yell out and I knew he completed his grand Slam.
The next day we all fished the South Branch together. Mr. Berger joined us for the first time. By the end of the afternoon we all caught fish. Me and Rick took a little break and we came back around 5pm. We fished the remainder of the day pretty hard. I went back to my spot where I caught my earlier rainbow at the end of a fall. I had on a stimulator with a dropper nymph. I had a big hit on the stimulator so I took the dropper of. I then threw back to the same spot and I hooked one. I brought in a nice rainbow to my feet and he got off. I let the pool settle down for a while and I threw that stimulator back in. I hooked a big ol Brown. I got him on the reel and I fought him for about five minutes. I finally got him in and I was amazed. I have never seen a fish as pretty as that big ol Brown that I layed beside of my fly rod for a picture before release. My trip was complete. That was the last fish I caught before setting off for home.
I had an awesome time in the Seneca area this past week. I would like to thank Mr. Berger for his friendship and hospitality. As of yet this is the best trip I have ever been on.
