I'm new to the site but Philip was kind enough to give me travel directions to the C&R on South Branch and ask me to give a report on the trip. When we arrived it was 37 degrees and I don't think the water was much warmer than that either, it was around 8:30am and we started fishing at Eagle Rocks and worked our way down stream hitting the majority of the reachable runs and pockets. I started out with a muddler minnow and managed to raise 2 trout in a 50yd. stretch of the river, did'nt hook either one. Switched to a bead head hares ear with no luck at all, and a half a dozen flies later i still had'nt caught the first trout. I got back into the fly arsenal and came up with a Squirrel tail nymph and then the fun started. I caught 4 with in about 30 minutes and I hooked a half a dozen more in about a 200yd stretch. If the water temps come up in the next few weeks and the air temps follow suit it should make a big difference in the amount of active fish. The fish were sluggish and the strikes were weak but for the conditions I was satisfied to have taken 4 fish to hand and had as many strikes as I had. It must have a lot of fish in it having only been stocked twice this season and I think that will be all the stocking it will get according to one of the locals I ran into and chatted with for awhile. I'm planning another trip down there in a few weeks but I'm going to wait for a warmer and cloudier day the next time. I had the cabin fever so bad that I really did'nt care if I caught any fish or not I just wanted out of the house and onto the water!! Tight Lines, Irish
